The word “yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit “yuj”, which roughly translates as “to yoke, unite or join”. The essence of yoga is connection, which means both acknowledging and reintegrating the different parts of “us” – body, mind and emotions, and connecting and interacting meaningfully with the world around us.
A busy urban life can mean that we spend most of our time living in the head. Practicing yoga is a direct route back to the “here and now” of the physical body and the breath.
As we tap into and stoke our vital energy (prana) on the yoga mat, we build strength, stamina and flexibility, challenge ourselves creatively and learn to find and hold our centre.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a specific form of yoga, which focuses upon uniting movement with breath in a dynamic, fluid and physically challenging practice. It is a moving meditation which uses diverse and creative sequencing to construct a yoga practice that fits with and complements the movement and demands of our life in any given moment – honoring our own inherent flow and that of the world around us.
“Yoga is both a universe of theories and a world of practices or practical techniques for joining your individual life with the life of the universe.”
